What an exciting day for the nature lovers of St Fergus’ NS today. We were delighted to welcome Rachel from L.E.A.F. (Learning About Forests) and Geoff Hunt to the school to share their knowledge and expertise with us.
Rachel told us about the many native trees in Ireland and about some of the creatures and plants that live in the Eco-Systems of our Forests. We then played a game called Bats and Moths to show us how bats use eco-location to find their food. In pairs we went for a nature hunt based on colour.
On the 9th of February we will visit the Curragh Chase to see more living things that exist in our forests. We can’t wait!
Later, our friend Geoff Hunt, came to our classroom to tell us about the variety of water birds that we can find in Glin. He helped us to draw some of them and showed us the correct colours that they are. He even taught us how to quack like mallards. Some lucky people got to hold he toy ducks! Before he left, Geoff, as usual, taught us a new song; this time it was “The Ugly Duckling”. He will return in May, to finish his work on the bug motel, which he started with the Senior Classes!
