On Thursday October 9th, we travelled by bus to Curraghchase to celebrate National Tree Day.
In the infant room, we have been busy collecting leaves and nuts for the last few weeks, so we were very excited to visit the woods. The Road Safety Authority sent us some high visibility jackets, so they came in very handy for our first trip out of school! We had lots of fun with our helpful guide Thomas, who taught us all about the names of different trees and their fruit. We collected some unusual leaves and seeds and nuts. During our walk, we came across some trees that had fallen in the bad storm in February. Thomas showed us how to tell how old a tree is by counting the rings in the trunk. We also found some insects and slugs! At the end of our walk, we spotted some beautiful swans flying over the lake. After our walk through the woods, we had a lovely picnic with Ms O’Hanlon and Mrs Healy. Some of the boys and girls were so tired, they decided to have a little sleep on the bus home!! Then, when we returned to school, we made some leaf rubbings in class. What a great day!
