The boys and girls in Senior Infants have all settled well back into school. They have had a great September, exploring the theme of School through Aistear.
Aistear:
In the month of September Senior Infants learnt all about school during Aistear time. In the classroom, our role-play area became a school and a secretary’s office. We talked all about the different people who work in St Fergus and the jobs that they do. Students built schools and classrooms from blocks and lego, they experimented with mixing colours, drew maps of their classroom and their journey to school, made healthy lunches with play dough, built ipads and designed school bags with junk art and drew beautiful self portraits. We read lots of stories including School Time for Sammy, The Kissing Hand and Pete the Cat Rocking in his New School Shoes. We are all looking forward to a change in theme and will begin to transition to our new topic of ‘Autumn and Halloween’ in October. Check out the pictures of some of our work!
Ice Cream
What a treat to keep us sweet. Thanks Cois Sionna.
Chalk
One of our favourite transition activities in Senior Infants is writing/drawing with chalk in the yard. Check out our wonderful creations. We love to work as part of a team!
Name Art with Sharpies and Tin Foil
Senior Infants made a piece of unique “name art” to hang in their classroom. The result was slick, shiny and colourful. I’ve always believed that when you give children great tools, they produce great work – check out these wonderful names!
Science
Dancing Raisins was the first of many science experiments this year. Using bread soda, water and vinegar they worked as a team to make raisins dance!
When bread soda and vinegar combine, they make bubbles. When the bubbles stuck to the raisins, they were lifted to the top of the basin. When the bubbles burst, the raising fell to the bottom again.
Great fun was had by all. Roll on our next experiment!
Morning Bins
I decided to take advantage of every opportunity to strengthen those little fine motor muscles– and morning work is perfect for that!
Students are paired and given a bin number each morning. Once given their number, students take responsibility for setting up their activity and tidying it away. They are pros at this and love the independence!
It has proven to provide hands on fine motor practice while also giving them a chance to work cooperatively.
Here are some pictures of the children enjoying their first Morning Bin sessions.
