Wednesday, 2nd June 2016 dawned bright and sunny as the pupils of St Fergus’ National School, set out on their school tour to Limerick. The children from Junior Infants to 2nd Classes made the trip to Annacotty Business Park to visit the recipe4success Cookery School. We were greeted by Eithne and her happy staff at 10:15am. Straight to work, we were handed an apron each and put to work!
We watched as Eithne demonstrated the correct way to make muffins and some of the pupils assisted her in the task. Afterwards we were broken into groups, with each making their own batch of 12 for later. The chocolate chips made for a delicious addition to the cakes. Once the muffins were in the oven, teachers were set a task. Mrs Adams, Ms O’Hanlon and Mrs Kennelly, competed in a cupcake icing competition. They had to each make a cupcake representing The Cookie Monster, using and icing bag, fondant icing and white, chocolate buttons. With encouragement from the pupils, they did a great job. Despite the drawn result from the professionals, there is NO DOUBT, but that Mrs Kennelly was the winner by a mile!
The next task was the assembling of our very own pizzas! Yummy. Passata, cheese, meats and vegetables flew as pupils made their delicious lunch.
Finally, we decorated cupcakes before boarding the bus for the playground in Foynes! The excitement was palpable as the children, swung, zip lined and twirled over the course of an hour before the day finished with an ice-cream. Lots of tired heads, disembarked at the school at 3:05pm. Another tour successfully completed!
