Wednesday, 28th January 2015, was a very memorable day in St Fergus’ N.S.. As part of Catholic Schools Week 2015, we invited all of our Grandparnts to the Halla to take part in a special Prayer Service in their honour. Fr Crawford officiated and the prayers, songs and reflections were done by the children and grandparents. It was a most special occasion, marking the unmatched contribution that grandparents make in the lives of their grandchildren. We presented a basket, containing the names of any grandparent who was unable to attend, for whatever reason, to the altar.
When the service was finished each class performed a “party piece”, dedicated to their grannies and granddads. While the performances were all of a very high standard and varied from the local “Pol an Eas”, to “Limerick You’re A Lady” to the Beatles “When I’m 64”, there is no doubt but that Ms O’Hanlon’s Infants stole the show with their rendition of “I’ll Tell Me Ma!”.
The good times continued afterwards, with grandparents and children, painting their hands with Ms Dillane and creating a montage of colour. Old Leabhair Rolla were browsed and many people found their own names and the dates on while they attended St Fergus’. Over a cup of tea and a biscuit, grandparents chatted and viewed the beautiful artwork covering the walls, which the children had done in honour of Grandparents Day.
We hope that you all enjoyed this beautiful afternoon of connectivity between the past and the future. We look forward to many more days of this kind again.
